Charter flights for space projects

Charter flights have undeniable advantages in the speed and safety among alternative logistic schemes and methods of transportation.

If space projects are limited to tight time frames, the organization of air transportation will be the obvious choice. But is it always the most expensive as well?

W think air transportation can be planned so as to minimize the total costs being incurred by the client.

One of the most interesting was the case of 2012 when we delivered the support equipment for the launch of the booster rocket with several satellites from the Russian launch pad in Baikonur (Kazakhstan). The final destination was Dulles Airport (Washington, USA) with american aerospace company Orbital Sciences Corporation as a consignee.

In order to reduce the cost of transportation, together with the customer, we decided to combine the air transportation on an IL-76 aircraft from Baikonur to Hamilton (Canada) with further trucking to Dulles.

Since the delivery of the cargo had a very strict deadline, we planned crew change along the route and were able to carry out the entire transportation in less than 40 hours with technical landings in Ulyanovsk (customs procedures) and Keflavik (refuelling stop) and the final ground sector to the US.

Such a logistic chain ended up optimal choice for our customer both in terms of the cargo delivery speed, and the costs of transportation. Combined logistic chain proved to be more attractive for the customer than a direct flight to a destination on a different aircraft type.
